The Blair Witch Project – which infamously had fans vomiting in the aisles – is back again after a revival of the iconic 1999 horror film was announced.
Producer and horror maestro Jason Blum is rebooting The Blair Witch Project, 25 years after the original film debuted.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Adam Fogelson announced the new take on the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
The movie marks a ‘new vision for Blair Witch, that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation’, Fogelson revealed.
This new film is set to be the first in a multi-picture deal with Blumhouse to ‘reimagine’ horror classics for Lionsgate, according to Variety.
Blum’s horror production studio Blumhouse has previously scored worldwide success with spine-tinglers such as the hugely popular Paranormal Activity and The Purge franchises, as well as recent hits M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddys.

All in, Blumhouse films have generated almost $6billion at the box office worldwide, and often on smaller budgets.
The original The Blair Witch Project, which starred Heather Donahue, Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard, had a minuscule budget, yet it became one of the most profitable movies ever, taking $28.5m during its first weekend of wide release.
It also inspired extreme reactions, with audience members feeling nauseous and even vomiting during its original theatrical run, leading to cinemas having to share health warnings.
The found footage indie flick didn’t turn people’s stomachs thanks to an excess of gore and blood though; rather it was the wobbling of the hand-held camera that triggered people prone to motion sickness.

Bonnie Hunsaker, the managing director of AMC Colonial at the time, was forced to post a warning for screenings of the film when the theatre experienced at least one audience member vomiting at every showing.
She said: ‘This past weekend we put up a sign that said the hand-held camera can create motion sickness, and if you’re susceptible to motion sickness you may want to rethink your viewing choice.’
The ‘mockumentary’ style film follows three students who go missing while filming a documentary about a bloodthirsty ghost, the titular Blair Witch, in the Black Hills.

A year later, their amateur footage is found in a bag buried under an abandoned house.

Blum is teaming up with producer Roy Lee for this reboot, who produced the 2016 sequel Blair Witch.
It was the third film in the franchise series after 2000’s quick follow-up, Blair Witch: Book of Shadows, which took a film-within-a-film approach.
The Blair Witch Project reboot is yet to have a release date announced.
